Sound issues running Windows Guest on Linux Host

I have a re-occurring issue with sound in a Windows XP guest running under VM Workstation 5.5.4 build- 44386 on a SLED 10.1SP1 Linux host.

I mainly use the XP guest to run Outlook to connect to the corporate Exchange server. I have Outlook configured to play a .wav file whenever I receive a new e-mail so I don't have to keep it the VM visible all the time.

The problem is that if I view any Flash animation or video on a web page, or play any kind of audio file on the Linux host, the Windows XP guest will be unable to play any kind of audio. The XP Guest will display the following error: Failed to open /dev/dsp.

The only way to get the audio work again is to reboot the Linux Host.

I also run the same version of VM Workstation on my laptop with SUSE 9.3 as the host operating system and the problem also occurs on it as well.

Any ideas?
