I'd like to create multiple snapshots from the same VMWare Workstation instance so I can work through various scenarios. The VMWare Workstation manual shows this scenario in Snapshot Manager with one instance having several snapshot branches. But when I create snapshots, I end up with one long, continuous chain of snapshots. What am I missing?
I currently am using VMWare Workstation 6.5.1.
to create branches use "GO TO"

Let's say you have Original - Snap1 - Current under Snapshot Manager. If you go back to Snap1 and then take another snapshot, you will get the branches you are looking for.

When I go back to Snapshot 1, the Take Snapshot button is grayed out. I can only click on Clone. The Take Snapshot button is only enabled when I'm on the You Are Here step.
The Go To button is also grayed out. I can only click on it when I select a snapshot, and then it just reverts to that snapshot. No branches.
Yes - thats fine - and expected behaviour. Use "GO TO"
obviously you must have something like
basedisk - snap1 - snap2 - "you are here"
then "GO TO" snap1 will create a branch
