Snapshot physical memory problem

Dears,

I have a problem with a snapshot that used to work perfectly. It won't open anymore. It seems because a physical memory problem.

I can't chnage that in the setting while the guest is suspended and it's greyed out as mentioned in the picture

Please support

I can't tell you whether it is possible to return to the snapshot from the GUI, but it should be possible to access the data.

To find out how things look like, please provide some details.

  • screenshot of the VM's Snapshot tree (from the Snapshot Manager)
  • the VM's .vmsd file
  • a complete list of files in the VM's folder (run dir *.* /one > filelist.txt)

Compress/zip the .vmsd, and the filelist.txt, and attach the .zip archive to your next reply.

You should paste large amounts of text into a "spoiler", it makes your thread easier to scroll through - when adding a post/comment click the triangle icon on the toolbar to add one.

Here's what it does:

I don't see how to fix the issue itself, but the attached files can be used as a workaround, to basically reset the snapshots' power state.

What you may do (assuming that you've already backed up the VM's files/folder) is:

  • close VMware Workstation (or at least the VM's tab)
  • delete the caches sub-directory
  • delete all .vmem files
  • delete all .vmsn files
  • extract the files from the attached .zip archive to the VM's folder

Dear André,

I made the steps as mentioned in your comment but when I try to open the snapshot it fails and says restore failed as mentioned in the picture attached

Simply delete it using e.g. the Windows Explorer.

Sorry, my bad. I forgot to include the modified .vmsd file.
To solve that issue, please close VMware Workstation, and delete the snapshot#.type = "1" lines from the .vmsd file.
