Snap shot real machine

Hello everybody,

I've just begun to use vmware workstation 6 and i would like to know if there is a possibility to make a snapshot on a real machine and use this snapshot in vmware( virtual machine).

Should i use an additionnal program? If we can do this, it helps me alot in my task.

And what is the different between ther version "workstation" and "server"?

thank before for ur answers.

You can "import" your host machine into a file - but you'd need to have spare disk really to do it, as you shouldnt try importing a disk you're trying to write the files to!

its a wizard, you should be able to follow it through without any major issue.

Differences between server and workstaiton, server is a lesser product, despite how the name semi implies, however, it is more suited to having vms run without user intervention, eg you want them to come up when the machine starts, and shutdown safely when the machine is shutdown. However, server doesnt have all the features of workstation, such as teams, multiple snapshots etc. So best answer is to read through the feature matrixes of both products.
