Slow graphics output (XP Guest, Linux host)

Hi all,

I've installed VMWare Workstation 6.0.4 on an OpenSUSE 11 (64Bit) OS. The host is running the latest ATI binary drivers and seems to work well, however when the Windows guest boots up the graphics output can be really slow.

For example, if I mouse over a file and get bubble/tooltip, when the tooltip fades out, it is very slow and I can visibly see each frame of the fade effect.

I can't replicate this behaviour under VirtualBox, using the same version of Windows and host OS.

It looks like you've forgotten to install VMWare Tools (VM additions for your guest).

And I hope you haven't tried to install ATI drivers on your guest, since VMWare emulates its own video adapter and that GPU is only supported by VMWare tools.

VirtualBox emulates standard PC video accelerator (some S3 flavor - if I'm not mistaken) so you don't have to install the drivers for it manually - and that's why VirtualBox works fine for you.
