Simultaneous virtual and physical disks

After reading the manual and some of this forum, I'm fairly sure its not possible, or someone would have mentioned it, but just to be sure...

Can a physical disk be added to a virtual machine created with a virtual disk?

Thanks

Sure you can have a virtual machine that has a virtual and uses a physical disk in the virtual machine configuration.

See "Using Disks"

That's great news.

(I read in http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/doc/ws_disk_add_raw.html how to add a physical disk to a virtual machine.)

Would this work in the VMware player as well?

Since you can not create VM's in VMware Player there is no option to specify a physical disk.

Thanks for the prompt replies KevinG!

What I meant was, if I create a virtual machine with both virtual and physical disks, and then run it with the vmware player, will it still attempt to access the physical disk?

I'm trying to determine if I can effectively use workstation to create virtual machines and then use player to play them on similarly configured PCs on my network. Where "effectively" includes the ability to share files on a physical disk.

Thanks
