Simulate Multiple Drives to install RAID (RHEL)

Hello,

I have to install RHEL on a server with two drives, but wish to run a test installation using VMware to confirm that I can use RAID 5. I have an external drive, and created partitions which under Windows XP allow me to see my external as two distinct drives.

However, DRUID sees the external drive as a single drive with separate partitions, is there a way to simulate having multiple drives?

Just as a note - RAID 5 requires at least 3 drives to work. 2 drives will allow you RAID 0, or RAID 1.

To get access to the physical drives, you should be able to add a drive and tell vmware that it is a physical drive, then point it to the correct physical mount point. I've only done this in a linux host, don't know what the options look like in a windows host.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

Thanks, I meant Raid 1, I wish to mirror the drive contents.

I have to add another physical drive? (I am working on a laptop so this isn't really an option for me). And I can't seem to find an option in the Windows version to do this.
