Noticed that too.  Read somewhere about a workaround - do a complete uninstall VMware tools in the guest, then reinstall.  This seems to work, though rather drastic if not risky yanking all the drivers out of a guest OS.  VMware really needs to reinvest in QC.  Rushing new releases out the door without good regression testing, breaks things.

Somehow I doubt that Workstation Product Managers can afford to think along those lines.
Looks like the only way to get the ok for the next years budget and for another new version  -is to have anything that gets you at least a little bit  of attention during the yearly showtime at VMworld.
Fixing bugs, good regression testing and quality management is only noticed by powerusers and existing customers. It will not result in new users or good critcs in magazines.

On the other hand actions like the new set of icons seems to be helpful to get a "have you seen the new WS ? - looks like a long overdue facelifting - lets make one more version ..."
That change must have been done in a great haste - the new set of icons were added so late that they did not even have to pass a public test in a Beta.
Dont expect better quality in the long run when a severe usabilty reduction is accepted as the price for a very short-lived "aha" effect.
A team that makes decision like that sure will not do a lot of regression testing or bug-fixing.

Have you tried the workaround Steve Goddard posted a few months ago here: Re: Windows 10 support

I wonder if it's the same problem.  If so, there isn't much we can do about it from our side other than reporting it to Microsoft, since the OS upgrader was/is removing our configuration from the registry... There's not much we can do about that.

Perhaps it's OS specific.  After updated VMtools, it broke Share Folders on a W2K guest, but not on a Xp guest.  Weird.
