Security risk of using shared folder in VMware workstation with linux host?

Hello everyone

The vmware is really vague regarding the shared folder, it says it can expose your host files to programs inside the VM, but doesn't mention which files, and with what permissions?

So my questions are :

1. Which files in the host can get modified/read by the guest after shared folder? if its only the files in the shared folder then isn't that really obvious? if other files can get read/written, then which files? all the files?! read or write?

2. What about code execution? will this let any unwanted code to get executed on my host?

(I have an ubuntu host, running windows 7/10 guests and my VMware workstation is the latest version)

It is like any other share, except it doesn't depend on using the NIC.

However you set the permissions on your host, that is how it will be for the VM.
