Hallo All.
I'm looking for a solution to use WLAN also as Bridged as I do it for the ethernet card in the Laptop.
I checked the Virtual Network Editor and removed Automatik on VMNET0 And also removed In the automatic Settings The Build in WLAN adapter from the settings.
Than I select the EthernetCard for the Bridged Connection.
Running the machine and selecting Bridged(Automatic) the VMNET0 connection works as expected.
Now I tried the same for The WLAN adapter.
But creating a new Virtual Network, VMnet2.
Checked Bridget and using now the WLAN adaper as Bridged.
Now in the Machine settings I selected the Custom: specific Virtual Network and starting again the VM.
WLAN IS activated and Active,
But the VM did not work as expected.
network & sharing Center showin a connection to the Host but not to the Internet within the status view of the adapter, but Host is connected to the internet.
What is going wrong here, or is VMware 12.5 not able to use WLAN bridged.
I'm runing the most actual Windows 10 as host
VMWare Workstation 12.5.7
Windows 7 within the Virtual Machine (Customer is not able to run newer Versions of Windows)
Help would be great.
regards Willi
What happens, if you start your Windows VM connected to the bridged WLAN adapter?
Do you get an IP-address via DHCP?
What do the logs of the WLAN Access-point say?
It depends quite heavy on the settings of the WLAN and in WLANs administered by myself, you would not be able to use a bridged WLAN adapter to connect to the WLAN.
For connecting to the internet via a WLAN on the host your best bet is to use a NATed connection. Thus you are independent of the settings and possibilities of your WLAN. Or you use an USB type WLAN adapter, that you can exclusively connect to the guest VM.
As fas as I know Vmware Workstation does not support direct-path IO like ESXi does and very few desktop hardware do support that, too.
For a really bridged connection you would need a virtual WLAN adapter not a virtual ethernet adapter and a WLAN card, wich does support multiple IP-addresses, and there is your problem buried. Inside of your guest the bridged WLAN is only seen as an ethernet adapter. So if you need to enter credentials for you connection like SSID, passphrase etc. you are out of possibilities. Only in WLANs with low security settings you can use 2 IP-addresses with the same physical adddress and need to authenticate only one connection.

Hi pwolf,
This answer is what I expected. So as long as there is no USB WLAN stick I hat to work with the Ethernet-Connection. That's fine at a first step. Second I will go an d look for a separate USB WLAN stick and link it to the VM.
Thanks for your Answer.
