Hi all,
on my linux box I have installed and running workstation 5.5.3 build-34685 with Win-XP-Prof as guest OS and the newest version of the VMWare-Tools.
I use two TFTs in portrait mode under X11 and Xinerma for the kde-desktop of the linux box. This works fine, also with the VMWare workstation.
Now my question: Is is possible to adjust the resolution of the screen to f.e. 768x1024 (Portrait) instead of 1024x768?
As I understand this has to be a property of the vmware svgaII graphics adapter.
Yes I know to adjust the screen resolution of the windows-guest in general, but I did not found a resolution 768x1024 or any other portrait like resolution nor a box to switch between portrait and landscape.
Any help welcome
Actually the screen resolution is done by the guest OS is the display settings
I´m sorry to bother again.
Is it possible or not?
Refer to knowledgebase article 1003 to add custom display modes to Windows guests.
The instruction in KA 1003 does not change anything. This might be due to my very little knowledge of the reg-editor.
I found, more or less by accident, that the fullscreen button change the resolution to 1012x1140 which is perfect for a 1024x1280 display.
Thanks a lot
Peter
I have been following this thread, and I have had a similar (or related) issue. I am using a widescreen high resolution monitor. I have a XP Host OS with Workstation 5.5.3. Inside the guest XP OS I followed the steps from that Knowledge Base Article (1003) but the resolutions I selected do not appear after a restart.
The interesting thing is that the Host OS supports the resolution, but even with the registry edit, the guest does not.
VMWare Tools has been installed in the Guest.
Any suggestions on what I might try to add resolutions like 1600x1024 or 1920x1200 to the guest OS?
Thanks!
I think I solved this one on my own. KBA 1003 does not give the correct registry location. Another post indicated that searching the registry for Resolution.0 was a more efficient method. Then adding the properly incremented Resolution registry key worked like a charm.
