SLES 10 SP2, VMWare Tools, Time Sync Without NTP

Hi,

I'm running VMWare Workstation 5.5.6 build-80404. My Host OS is Windows XP Professional SP2. I have a need to install and run SLES 10 SP2 as a Guest OS. When I attempt to install vmware tools, I get a message indicating that "None of the pre-built vmhgfs modules for VMware Tools is suitable for your running kernal." Is there support for SLES 10 SP2? My main issue is attempting to keep the clock in sync. Without VMWare tools, I'm not sure how I will do that. Also, this VM Guest OS is isolated from the internet, running on a laptop. So NTP is not an option.

I have added clock=pmtmr to the kernal options line in my boot config. Also, the line tools.syncTime = "FALSE" is in my *.vmx file, though without tools installed, I don't think that would have any effect. What are my options?

Thank you,

Tim

If you install the gcc compiler and the Kernel sources VMware Tools will compile the modules so they can be loaded. Then you can use the VMware clock synchronization.Either use "vmware-install.pl" which will invoke "vmware-config.pl" for you or use it directly to recompile the Tools (you have to use the VMware Tools .tar file for doing so).
