Doesn't Workstation 6 support SATA-II drives? On page 30 of the user manual, only IDE and SCSI are mentioned.

Any drive your host can see/use, you can store your VMs on. If you want to use a physical drive/partition in a guest instead of using a virtual disk, then only IDE and SCSI drives are supported.
