I want to store all of our vmware files on the network for more robust storage, backup, etc. but want to run them from local computers.
THe performance is slower because the vmem files are stored on the network.
Is there a configuration or anything that will allow me to store my vmem locally or are there any other options to improve the performance so it is almost like running it locally?
Thanks
On Workstation 6 under Settings / Options tab / General you can change the Working directory - I guess you can change it to be a local folder but I don't know if the vmem file will be stored there (suspend files and snapshots are it says so no reason not to think that the vmem files shouldn't). I'd backup the VM first though
BTW, the VM needs to be powered off in order to change the working dir setting.
Best of luck.
Try to disable VMware memory optimizations to see if it helps:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini
prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "TRUE"
prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100"
guest ".vmx" file:
sched.mem.pshare.enable = "FALSE"
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"
MemTrimRate = "0"
MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE"
I would like to store the snapshots on the network but would like the vmem memory file to be accessed locally as that is the most dynamic piece - I think.
Any more ideas?
Tim
That was the setting:
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"
will this setting work with 5.5?
yes
by the way - avoid changing working directory in WS 5.* and early 6.0.*
will this setting work with 5.5?
Yes it will work.
