Hello,
It is possible to run an VMWare from a MacOS Host VMWare Fusion 12 (Windows 10 Guest System) into a VMWare Workstation Pro 15.1 Host ?
Because at Homeoffice i use a iMac27" with Fusion to run an Windows 10 VMware with Programming Tools wich only run under Windows 10, and Sometimes whem i´am back in the office i want to use the Same VMWare on my Desktop PC in the Office with VMWare Workstation Pro 15.1. The VMWare is moved to a External SSD with Thunderbold 3 / USB3.1 for good performance.
The VMWare was Build with Workstation Pro and it was easy to run on my iMac in VMWare Fusion, but when i try to start the same VMWare (before this was running in Fusion) now i become the Message ..
"The configuration file "E:\VMWare\Window10 64Bit Simatic HomeOffice\Windows10.vmx" was created by a VMware product that is incompatible with this version of VMware Workstation and cannot be used.Cannot open the configuration file E:\VMWare\Window10 64Bit Simatic HomeOffice\Windows10.vmx."
Check the compatibility version of your VM: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1003746
Hi,
Yes that should work.
But from the sounds of it your VMware Fusion is version 12 whereas your Workstation version is 15.
VMware Workstation 15 has a max virtual hardware version that works with VMware Fusion 11.
So you either have to get yourself VMware Workstation 16 or you change the virtual hardware for your VM in VMware Fusion to be compatible with Workstation 15 (menu -> Virtual Machine -> Settings -> Compatibility )
hope this helps,
