Run multi subnet (Host) in VM8

Hi,

I would like to test several 2k3 servers in the VM8 which are in different host only subnets as follow:

2 servers with IP range 10.130.128.0/24

1 server with IP range 10.130.129.0/24

1 server with IP range 10.130.130.0/24

1 server with IP range 10.130.131.0/24

1 server with IP range 10.130.132.0/24

I want them all to be able to communicate with each other. I tried to create a vmnet2 with 10.130.0.0/16 but they come up all kinds of errors. Is there any way I can do that or I need another app??

Thanks.

I just added VMnet2 via the Virtual Network Editor using 10.130.0.0/16 and had no problems whatsoever.

Woodyz,

Thanks for the reply but cannot see the picture.

I created the vmnet2 (10.130.0.0/16) and the IPs for the machines are:

1 server with IP 10.130.128.11 with 255.255.255.0 Gateway 10.130.128.1

1 server with IP 10.130.129.11 with 255.255.255.0 Gateway 10.130.129.1

1 server with IP 10.130.130.11 with 255.255.255.0 Gateway 10.130.130.1

1 server with IP 10.130.131.11 with 255.255.255.0 Gateway 10.130.131.1

I can ping from each IP to their own gateway but I can't ping to any other subnet IP nor their gateway.

All the DCs in each subnet cannot replicate or communicate with other DCs.

Just a question but do you have any routing between each of the Vlans? Without some kind of routing there is no way for any of them to commuincate with each other.

You will need to setup a virtual machine to act as a router

How to setup the VM to run as router??

you'll have to install windows or linux and then configure it to work as a router. I'm not to familar with linux but in windows you will need to use either windows 2008 / windows 2008R2 or windows 2003

using windows 2008/2008R2

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/how-configure-windows-2008-server-ip-routing.htm...

using windows 2003

http://www.techrepublic.com/article/solutionbase-using-windows-server-2003-as-a-router-on-your-netwo...

Just give the VM 1 gig of memory and 1 cpu and see how it runs. Since it's going to act as router it won't need to be in a domain and you're not going to use it for anything else.
