You can certainly set up a SOCKS Proxy server somewhere on your network and then configure Applications running in your Guest to use the SOCKS Proxy. However, that won't "route all Internet traffic" -- it will only route the Internet traffic from the programs you specifically configure to use the SOCKS Proxy.

So its not possible at all then to route all internet traffic comming out of a VM through a Proxy..

I have to configure each individual app within the vm to connect through a proxy..

In my experience, most companies that decide to use a (HTTP, SOCKS, or both) Proxy server first block outgoing Internet traffic at the border firewall. This prevents end user systems from directly accessing the Internet. Then they configure the border firewall to allow the Proxy server to have outgoing access. The end result is that only applications that are configured to use the proxy are allowed outside access.

So with the above setup, technically "all" internet traffic is routed through the Proxy, but that is only because any internet traffic not using the Proxy is blocked by the firewall.
