Resctrictions after Update from Player to Workstation

Hello,

I ceated some virtual machines using the player. Now I upgraded to the workstation and can open and run the VMs formerly created with the player. But I can NOT change any settings. E.g. for the description it says "The description for this virtual machine cannot be changed while restrictions are enabled."

Can anybody tell me how to fix this? The VMs are not encrypted and therefore they are not restricted.

Thx

Oliver

I got it: All the files had the file attribute write protect set. Don't ask me why and when that happened. Yes, now I know: I made this before updating to Workstation to prevent the update to delete my files. A typcial I/O error (Idiot Operator). Sorry for that.

Thx to all who thought about my problem.

Oliver

Note: Use the "Use advanced editor" link in the upper right corner of the normal reply window to bring up the Advanced Editor where you'll be able to attach files via the Choose File button or Browse button (depending on the Browser) above the Post Message button!

I can run the VM as it is.
If you start Workstation as admin you should also be able to change settings - at least that works for me

Thank you Continuum,

in my environment this does NOT work Smiley Sad. Neither in Player nor in Workstation. That would have been surprising, since it was the same user that created the VM that ist no trying to use it with the workstation.

And I can run it too. I can not change the settings. This is my problem.

So no fix until now.

When you try to change settings make sure the VM is NOT suspended - power it off instead

I would have sworn that I could start the VMs - but now I get the message that I have "Insufficient permission to access file.". The .vmdk. What the hell is that? I've been trying to start it as admin and I've even been logged in as admin!

The file explorer tells me, taht the admin and system have full rights on this file. Authentified Users may change, read and execute, read and write. The User may read and execute and read the file. Other users for this file to not exist.

And the Virtuel Machine Details say: Powered off.

Perhaps another hint: I have one more VM that was NOT created on this PC. I haven been forwarded all the correspondig files. I can launch this VM and I can edit the settings. All VMs have been created using Version 8 of VMware (config.version). The only difference I can see is the creating machine. HTH
