I just upgraded to version 6 from version 5.
I am testing Remote Display options and I cannot make it work.
I tried everything.
I am using VNC 4.1.2 and when I try to connect I always get an error:
Connection refused (10061)
I open options on the WM, I enable Remote Display, set the port (I tried different ones)
On the Wm Summary View it say:
Remote display: Listening on port 5910, 0 users connected.
I start VNC client, set the host name and the port, always the same error.
The host system is XP Pro
The guest system is XP Pro
If I install VNC server directly on a guest system I can connect No problem ever.
However if I enable Remote Display I just cannot connect whatever I do.
Any idea?
if you use RealVNC Viewer, under the Preferred Encoding option, select Hextile, and under the Colour Level option, select Full (all available colours).
Also make sure that in the remote VNC view that you specify the hostname or IP of the host and NOT the guest OS hostname or IP of the virtual machine.
The VNC server is running on the VMware Workstation host and not the guest.
You also need to insure that in the "VM" -> "Settings" -> "Options" tab -> "Enable Remote Display" is checked and that you are using the correct port.
I have exactly the same issue. My initial enthusiasm for this feature (I run my virtual machines remotely, and over RDP the display is v. slow) seems to have been premature...
Seeing the same thing here as well, came here looking for an answer but there doesn't seem to be one yet.
Host OS is XP Pro x64 Edition, firewall is disabled.

Changing the viewer encoding options fixed it for me.
Cool
Thank you Kevin.
If you know someone who works on documentation it would be nice to emphasize that it is the HOST not the guest to connect to.

Hi Bela,
Actually on page 184 of the Workstation Users Manual step 7 (b) the following text is provided.
b When prompted for the VNC server name, enter the name or IP address of the
host computer and the port number you specified in step 5.
Use the format:
Do you have any recommendations on how it could be worded differently?
If so, I will pass this information along to the technical documentation group.
Since we \*know* the IP address off the host, why not just provide the text that needs to be fed to the VNC viewer?
