I have been sent a series of vmdk files -
Windows XP Professional-s001.vmdk
Windows XP Professional-s002.vmdk
... and so on.
Now I realise that I need a VMX file at least, but even using Workstation and attempting to recreate a new empty VMX file and attaching the this results in a message that the first file above is not a valid disk file. Do I also need a 'Windows XP Professional.vmdk' (ie. not the partition but the root) file, and if so how do I create this in absence of one? The creator of the set of files is within my organisation but not easily accessible, and it has taken me all day to download from their internal ftp site so I don't want to wait for them to add the vmx/vmdk back into the massive archive, just recreate them if possible.
thanks,
Do I also need a 'Windows XP Professional.vmdk'
Yes - if you don't have it it can be created from scratch - see my howto

If that is to tricky for you - attach all vmware.logs (zipped to one file) that belong to that VM and I do it for you

Thanks, that was a good guide.
I have it working now.
Wow - that was fast.
Either you are a smart guy or my howto is better then I thought ... or both 😉
