Hi,
I am using VMware on my 64-bit linux machine to run XP professional. After 6 months of uninterrupted service, I am all of the sudden getting the following error:
Operation on file "/home/bartv/vmare/Window XP Professional /Window XP "Professional-flat.vmdk" failed. An error box then request to either abort/retry/continue. (and only the abort works).
I checked the vmare.log file and the following error messages are imbedded:
1) Mar 07 10:20:29: vmx| VIDE: ATAPI DMA 0x25 Failed: key 0x2, asc 0x3a, ascq 0x0\
2) Mar 07 10:22:10: vmx| VMXAIOMGR: Retry on write "/home/bartv/vmware/Windows XP Professional/Windows XP Professional-flat.vmdk" : Resource temporarily unavailable.

Mar 07 10:23:41: vmx| Choose Retry to attempt the operation again. Choose Abort to terminate this session.
Mar 07 10:23:41: vmx| Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.----

Mar 07 10:24:01: vmx| Msg_Post: Warning
Mar 07 10:24:01: vmx| \[msg.vmxaiomgr.corrupted] VMware Workstation cannot sync with disk before abort. Disk /home/bartv/vmware/Windows XP Professional/Windows XP Professional-flat.vmdk may be inconsistent.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks, Bart.
What exact Linux distro and version are you using?
What version of Workstation?
What filesystem is the partition the VM's files are on?
Is /home a separate mounted filesystem?
Linux ditribution: Linux s878144 2.6.9-34.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed May 17 16:59:36 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Workstation version: 5.5.1 build-19175
The partition is on /home/bartv/vmware/Windows XP Professional
Is /home a separate mounted filesystem or is it part of the / root filesystem?
Yes it is, mounted on /dev/sda6.
Bart.
I meant to say it is a seperately mounted filesystem.
Hi Bart,
Are there other VM's running on /home that do not have this issue or is it all VM's on /home.
Can you access the /home file system?
Did you have any type of backup that may have been running that had a lock of the *.vmdk?
Hi Kevin,
No other VM's are running on /home.
Bart.
I just noticed that the Professinal-flat.vmdk file is slightly greater than the pre-allocated virtual disk set to 10Gbytes. Although none of the error messages indicate that there is no space left on this device, could this be the root of the problem? If so, how do I fix this without loosing any data on my current partition?
