Problems with Promiscuous Mode in VMware Workstation

I am using a non-Sudo user, which may be where my problem lies.

When running an nmap/masscan in VMware I get an error it is not in promiscuous mode: I follow: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/287

No luck.

I also did it at the operating system level: root@# ip link set enp4s0 promisc on root@# ip link set vmnet1 promisc on root@# ip link set vmnet8 promisc on root@# ip link set vmnet69 promisc on (I have also done this on the VM itself for eth0)

My user isn't sudo, I install things as root and move back to a non-sudo user. I think my problem lies here as most configs have a sudo user and root disabled by default.
