I have a Windows 7 64-bit host computer with Workstation 9 installed.
I am trying to create a Win Server 2012 vitual machine, but I keep getting a licensing error. There are other posts on this subject, but they pertain to Workstation 8. I have tried the solutions in those posts, but I still have a problem.
I have downloaded the ISO file using Internet Explorer two times. One time I used the ISO to create the VM and one time I burned the ISO on a DVD and tried that. It still gives me this error when installing:
"Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation."
The problem is I've tried the installation 5 to 6 times and I can't get past that.
Has anyone done this successfully?
Thanks,
Rod
Try this :
When you create a New virtual machine
- Choose the option: I will install the operating system later.(The virtual machine will be created with a blank hard disk.)
Do not type the path to the ISO file
- After creating New virtual machine additionally set the path to the ISO file (VM/ settings/ CD-DVD.../Use ISO image file)
- After running the New virtual machine to automatically install classicl (otherwise runs probably Express= error)
I think you have problem with download of media, already had similar problem
do you use proxy in download?
in my case this is a problem

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not using a proxy, just my DSL connection to my ISP. I will download the file again and see what happens.

Thank you very much. That worked. Win Server 2012 is installing right now.
Glad to hear that , this also apply to Windows 8 .
Thank you very much. That worked very will
Waouh.You are damn right.It works !
The other option for evaluation copies of windows which do not require a license key e.g. from technet
evaluation centre.
- go into setting on the vm
- On the default hardware tab you will see a floppy drive using file autoinst.ftp.
- For the floppy uncheck 'connected' and 'connect at power on'.
Windows will then install fine.
Thank you, sir, that totally worked!
Thank you!!! Works like a charm

Thank you very much Scorpion99Scorpion99, it works with me, I got same error while installing MS Windows Server 2016 evaluation on workstation 12 .
Thanks Scopion99
Fixed the issue when attempting to install W2k16 on Workstation 12.
Thank You smoothx1x,
This fixed the issue I was having installing Server 2016 on a VMware Workstation 12 install.
Thank you!. It worked when I am installing Windows Server 2016.
The fix also worked for me as well - installing Windows 10 on the just-updated version of Workstation 14 player (which solved several issues including resizing).
So what do we think the issue is here? I installed the same image on workstation player in the past with no issues (used the easy install, which is selected by default with the traditional method). Seeing how far this thread goes back, is there a problem with Express Install on certain build levels of the VMware installer application that cause this to happen?
And anno 2018 with workstation 14 the problem still exists.
Who thought this Easy/Express Install was a good idea??
