Pre allocated hard disks

VMware Workstation 6.5

I have installed a new image using SCSI as the disk type and selected pre allocation for the entire disk space. But after the installation was over i see now in the VM settings > Hard disk > IDE and the disk information says "Disk space is not preallocated for this hard disk. Hard disk contents are stored in a single file.

I was expecting it say it is preallocated and SCSI instead of IDE. I would appreciate any clarifications and thanks in advance.

don't know why you have a growing disks ... anyway - you do not have a snapshot so you can change format with vmware-vdiskmanager if you want

thanks for the reply, I will try that and report back. It used to be so simple and straight forward in VMware Server 😕

Hi,

I have just installed the vmware again and this time it worked fine. So it must have been some user error ;-). Now I have preallocated disc.

Thanks.
