Power on hang

Hi

I have VMWare Workstation/Player on a Windows 2003 R2 box(sp1). There were 4 XP professional images running on the box. Lately the images were behaving extremely slow. So I shut down all the images and resarted the whole server and then I tried to restart the imags again.

The images will not power on any more. When I hit power on - it remains on that the screen and nothing happens. If I try to close Player/Workstation then I get a "Power on operation is progress .. " Message. Eventually I have the kill the process from task manager to stop it.

I cannot even create a new image. After the usual steps the image again does not power on at all. It just gets hung. I donot think there is a problem with the images as such because they are running on a different box if I copy them and run them on that other box using workstation/player.

If I look at the logs - there is nothing on it. The log just stops at a point . The last line being "Connecting to window system"

Can any one please help me with this.
