Poor performance on linux host

on every day basis I am using Virtual Box - I have just tried VMware Workstation 6.5 and what I can say, performance hasn't improved since Beta.

Issues I have:

  1. Perforamce - poor when compared to Virtual Box, I could say - really poor.

  2. Extensive disk use - again - I can't use firefox on the host, I can't open smothly anything in eclipse - every couple of seconds I need to wait 1-2 seconds...

  3. When I am using VirtualBox, it may remain open all day and on the host I can't see any decrease in performance - when using vmware workstation, I can notice decrease in host's perforamnce strightaway.

Hope to see any improvments in performance in future versions.

Having used VMWare workstation under XP for quite some time, I threw it onto OpenSUSE 11, and I'm amazed at how poorly it performs. It's intermittent, but network copies can hang for several minutes, and the VM often becomes unresponsive for 1-5 minutes. On OpenSUSE, the CPU isn't being pegged. This was an attempt to not have to run XP natively on my workstation, but so far, it's a failure. I may try a different distro and see if it makes a difference.
