Opening a VM sets VMX file permissions to Authenticated User on W11 Host

Running VMWare Workstation Pro 16.2.1.16457 on Windows 11 Pro 21H2 22000.348

I set the file permissions to allow a script to copy my Virtual Machines to a back up location.

However, when a VM is launched the "VMX" file permissions  remove all permissions except "Authenticated Users"

This is repeatable. The VM  must be launched for this behavior to exhibit.

How do I stop VMWare Workstation from changing the file permissions of my VM's?

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

Sorry to say, but I don't think you can change that behavior.

You'll have to script your way around it.

One trick I used in the past at a customer -for a completely unrelated issue- was to have a script run via task scheduler that changes the permissions on files just before running a copy script.

Hope this helps,
