Hi,
Not sure what you are asking, but there's not so much difference between running a windows VM on an OS X host in comparison to running on a windows host. In general... DirectX 9 is supported, but openGL is not...
You will need VMware workstation 6.5 and enable 3D support on your windows guest.. and then the features in regards with DX9 are the same as under VMware Fusion.
Doe that answer your question?

OK thanks, I am sure it did not work in version 6.0.x something. I guess it was fixed some time later on...
Correct, in 6.0.x there was only experimental 3D support and it was introduced in 6.5.
Here's a snippet from the Release notes
># Accelerated 3-D graphics on Windows XP guests — Workstation 6.5 virtual machines now work with applications that use DirectX 9 accelerated graphics with shaders up through Shader Model 2.0 on Windows XP guests. Hosts can be running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Linux.
and the 6.5.1 release notes have this:
>3-D graphics — Additional improvements have been made to improve 3-D performance on Windows XP guests.
