Not possible to connect CD-ROM with a limit account

Hello community,

I have a small problem. If I want to connect my CD-ROM in VM Settings with device status connect, I get this error: CD-ROM is locked, it is exclusive in use by another VM. But I have no other VM in use. On my host I am using two users, one with administrator account and another with limited rights. The error appears only if I use the user with limited rights. If I start VMware with RunAs /User:Admin vmware.exe all works well. Is there a difference to use VMware with priveleged or non-privileged rights?

Thanks for tips.

Cheers

Stefan

Are you running Vista without having disabled UAC ?

Dear Continuum,

thanks for your reply. No, I do not use Vista with User Access Control. I use Windows XP Home with one admin user and one restricted user.

Greetings to Q.

Delete your CD-Drive in the Device Manager, reboot, report back if it helps.

Hello birdie,

thanks for you tip, but it does not work.

Is there something wrong with the rights between an admin and a standard user? Look at the Log file, the first section show an access as standard user:

Nov 22 13:48:48.703: vcpu-0| CDROM ide0:1: CMD 0x55 (MODE SELECT(10)) FAILED (key 0x5 asc 0x24 ascq 0)

Nov 22 13:48:55.750: vmx| {color:#000000}msg.device.badconnect{color} Failed to connect virtual device ide0:1.

The following section as admin user:

Nov 22 14:49:28.765: vmx| CDROM: Connecting ide0:1 to 'S:'. img=0 raw=1 remote=0

Now I use the legacy emulation and it works well, but is it okay?

Thanks for tips.

Cheers
