Newb needs direction

This is probably very simple but I'm stuck.

I am a web developer. I use Windows for my dev platform, but I have clients that use primarily OSX so they use FF or Safari to browse.

I managed to get a VM running with Mountain Lion, but i have a problem. i need to raise the resolution. 1024x768 just isn't cutting it.

I've tried in vain for days installing the VMWare tools which should give me the ability to raise the res, but i got a certificate error for a few days, and after researching find it's a VMWare problem. it seems resolved now, but no matter what VM i try installing the tools to, I get 'could not find component on update server'.

Is there a simple way to get around this?

I also tried just getting a package that was supposed to give me a fix. VMsvga. I downloaded it from sourceforge which is supposed to support 10.8 OSX (it's ver 2.) but it fails at the last moment of install. Not knowing MAC I'm really stuck troubleshooting.

So i'm looking for direction. I own a licensed copy of snowleopard but I've heard I can't upgrade that through the VM to Mountain Lion.

What would be the best direction to get a higher resolution? and more importantly, why can't i even install the VMware tools?

Thanks for any assistance.

Also,

Don't know if this helps, but I was running VMWare 8 but upgraded to 9 last week.

VMware does not support the running of OS X under VMware Player/Workstation!  Also, running legally virtualizable versions of OS X in a Virtual Machine may only be done when done on Apple-branded hardware and when done while running under OS X and for that you need VMware Fusion not VMware Player/Workstation (or use ESX/ESXi on Apple-branded hardware) otherwise you're violating the Apple SLA for that product.  Therefore no help can be provided to you for OS X in this use case scenario as it would violate VMware Community Terms of Use to do so.

OK I understand.

Sorry about that. I figured out the fix anyway.
