Hello Everybody,
I have built a lab on my Laptop and PC with VMware Workstatio 12 installed on both physical machines. I am not able to ping from VM1 on Laptop to VM2 on PC. I would appreciate if you could provide any suggestions to make it work.
Here are the details:
Host 1 : Laptop running Win 7 and workstation 12 installed on it. VM1 with Windows Server 2008R2 running.
Laptop IP:192.168.10.5
VM1 IP : 192.168.10.11 - Bridged: Replicate physical network connection state
Host 2 : PC running win 7 and workstation 12 installed on it. VM2 ESXi 6.5 U1 running.
PC IP:192.168.10.1
VM2 IP : 192.168.10.12 - Bridged: Replicate physical network connection state
Host 1 NIC and Host 2 NIC is connected to unmanaged Dlink switch.
I can ping VM1 (Win 2k8) from Host 1 as well as from Host 2 BUT NOT from VM2 (ESXi).
I cannot ping Host 1 and VM1 (Win2k8) from VM2 (ESXi).
P.S. Diagram has been attached for reference.
Thank You.
Kind Regards - AG
Can you ping Host 2 or VM2 from Host 1 or VM1?
Do Host 1 or VM1's IP addresses appear in Host 2 or VM2's ARP caches?
Are Host 2 or VM2 running any firewall software with rules affecting ICMPv4 or ICMPv6?
I can ping Host 2 from Host 1 and vice-versa.
I can Ping Host 2 from VM1 and vice-versa.
I cannot ping VM2 from VM1 and vice-versa.
I did not try pinging VM2 from Host 1. I can check that.
I disabled Windows Firewalls on both hosts as well as inside VM1. VM2 is running ESXi 6.5.
Can you ping Host 2 from VM2 and vice-versa?
Yes, I can ping host 2 from VM2 and vice-versa.
I'm no expert in this, but what about subnet masks for both VM1 and VM2?
Is Host 2's NIC compatible with ESXi 6.5 U1? (VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search)
If a default gateway is defined for VM2 can you ping it?
If a virtual switch has been defined have you tried enabling promiscuous mode for the guest adapter? (https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004099, https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002934)
