We're running an old NT system on workstation, workstation is on a win2k server. The guest OS (NT) only recognizes it's old 3com network interface which no longer exists. VMware tools is installed, tried bridging, it there something we're missing here? Is there a vmware specific driver I can install on the gust OS?
IPconfig on the NT guest OS doens't show that it has any adapters, no MAC, no IP, just shows default gateway and routing = no, that's about it.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi, when you right click the vm and click install vmware tools, then the vmware tools cd is mounted in the VM.
Install the driver wich is in the Vmware Tools CD
vmware tools is already installed. I did mount the vmware tools again, there doesn't look like there are any network drivers in there.
Hi, check this http://www.vmware.com/support/esx2/doc/esx2-16515update.html
Uncrompress the tar file, and you will have the windows.iso.
mount the ISO in the VM.
look at CDROM:\program files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers\vmxnet\winnt
ah, I see what you're talking about, but this is workstation 6.5.1 with a NT 4.0 guest, not ESX, the workstation vmware tools does not includ a tar file.
I know, try uncompressing the tar (with winrar) and mount the iso to the VM.
There is not a tar file in the vmware tools mounted CD.
In this webpage http://www.vmware.com/support/esx2/doc/esx2-16515update.html there is a link to download that tar file
Thanks, I installed the vmware driver, and now have that interface selected in NT setting, I still however don't have a MAC or IP address for some reason.
have you reset the VM after installed the driver?
yeah, it prompted for a restart after installing the driver.
