NAT issues with Workstation 7.1.2

Hello all,

I have just upgraded to Workstation v7.1.2 and am now having issues with NAT networking from the VM to the outside world (e.g. I cannot reach the WWW from the guest).

The guest is Linux (CentOS 5.3) with up-to-date tools and the host is Windows XP ... SP1.

Going into the control panel it appears that VMware NAT Service hasn't been started. Attempting to start gives me the following error:

"Could not start the VMware NAT Service service on Local Computer

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Has anybody else witnessed this? What should I do to get around this problem?

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the Community,

From which version did you upgrade?

According to the VMware HCL VMware Workstation 7.1.x is only supported on XP SP2 and above.

You must be using Windows XP SP3 nowadays (so I strongly suggest to update), meanwhile I suggest completely uninstalling and then installing VMWare WorkStation again.

Thanks for the replies.

The upgrade took me from v 7.1.1 to 7.1.2 build 301548.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with XP SP1 for the moment (corporate rules), an upgrade to SP3 is due soon but not just yet.

Upgraded to Service Pack 3.  Issue no longer occurs.
