Moving VM from 32 bit XP to 64 bit XP host

I am using VMWare WS 6, paid version, current build.

I am trying to move a guest VM (32 XP Pro) from a 32 XP Pro HOST OS, ot another PC which has 64 bit XP Pro as host.

I Shutdown the guest, and then copied the entire VM folder to the new PC, into the same path. When trying to start the VM, I get message to say guest os is in use! Converter fails to import it, with message to say that it cannot determine guest operating system!

Why is this not working, and how can it be made to work?

I thought the prme benefit of the virtual PC environment is transportability, for migration and backup.

Thanks in advance,

Make that the VM you copy is not suspended or has snapshot(s)

If this is the case, you just need to copy the complete virtual machine directory to the new PC.

You just may have has *.lck file and/or directory that was left behide that just needed to be deleted to remove the error about already in use.
