Module 'Disk' power on failed

I keep getting the:

Module 'Disk' power on failed

error and I can not recover these VMs.

I have tried deleting the .lck folders but they come back every time I try to launch. These VMs were working fine until I copied them from 'my documents' to the root C:\Virtual Machines\ folder. I have tried restoring from my last backup several times. This allows me to use them once and then the error comes back so I lose any new work.

I need an answer to this to recover a lot of work.

Update:

I tried reverting to an earlier snapshot. I allowed me to run for a while and then locked up. When I rebooted, I get a Windows error on launch "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." Does this give any clue? Did I miss something when I copied the VM folders?

Smells like failing hardware..
Run some hardware tests on the host against your disk and your RAM.
