Missing vmnetX interfaces

Hello,

All vmnetX interfaces have dissappear from my system. If I try to activate network cards on VM I get a message stating that vmnetX is not installed on system. They are no longer shown when executing 'ifconfig'. Only eth0 and loopback.

I suppose that this happened after a recent kernel upgrade, but I can not be sure of this. I tried to downgrade to old kernl without luck. Also tried to uninstall VMware Workstation and installing it again. It looks like modules are compiled

user:/lib/modules/2.6.27-11-generic# find -name 'vm*'

./misc/vmmon.ko

./misc/vmci.ko

./misc/vmblock.ko

./misc/vmci.o

./misc/vmnet.ko

./misc/vmblock.o

./misc/vmmon.o

./misc/vmnet.o

./kernel/drivers/video/vermilion/vmlfb.ko

but they are not loaded, as a 'lsmod | grep vm' only shows vmmon module. Also, a 'insmod vmnet' returns 'insmod: can't read 'vmnet': No such file or directory'

Oh, I use Ubuntu intrepid 8.10, and vmware was working fine just a few days ago.

any hints ? I dont know what else to do.
