I am facing some problem related to memory consume by the VM
as i want to run 10 win xp VM on
VMware workstation 6.5.1. I have configure each VM with 1
processor and 256mb of RAM but when i run the VM it take 440mb of RAM.
Here is my pc configuration
Processor- core2duo
2.4ghz
RAM - 3gb
Os- windows xp with
Sp3 (Host) same in VM also.
I know that when VM
run it take some overhead but it take nearly 75% overhead after 30 minute .In
VM,there is not a single application or process is run that can consume nearly
200mb of extra RAM.
I am also attaching some screenshot of the process and vm.Also there is the vmware support data, if any one can resolve or expain this.

My guess is that your guests are using more memory because.. well um.. they probably use more memory?
256Mb for a Windows XP is really thin.. it starts swapping in the guest.
An overhead like that is indeed pretty strange, but without knowing details....
Did you look in the guests how much memory is really being used?

edit: thanks for removing the office tags
in guest vm , it is using only 144mb out of 256mb.
in another testing i have found that in vmware workstation 6.0, same config vm using 310mb of ram that means it has 8-10 % overhead.
Did you enable 3d acceleration as that will take up another 128Mb...
