Mac address of virtual machine detected incorrectly by host machine.

Host: Ubuntu 9.10

Guest: Ubuntu 9.04

Vmware: ver 7

Problem:

I have a VM with a mac adress of 00:11:22:33:44:55

This resides in a host with mac address 66:77:88:99:00:11

When I look into the arp cache of the host machine it is seeing the VM with a mac adresss of 66:77:88:99:00:11 and not it's correct mac of 00:11:22:33:44:55.

Is this by design or is it a bug.

Thanks.

Is your Guest configured for NAT networking?

No. It's a bridged connection. Other VM's pick up the correct mac of each other and the host, but the host sees all vm's with the host's mac address.

I am going to assume that the host network adapter that you are bridged to is a wireless adapter. If this assumption is correct, then yes, this is by design.

You are perfectly correct. Smiley Happy

Will this behaviour changed if it were wired?

Thanks.
