Lost Local Network Access After Installing VMWare

I just installed VM Workstation 7 on an WinXP Pro Machine. I have not yet created any virtual machines. After installation I noticed that although I had internet connectivity, I had lost all local connectivity. I could not conenct to any network shares, not could anyone connect or see my machine. I noticed that in addition to my actual hardware ethernet card, two new ethernet adaptors were present. VMnet 1 and VMNet8. Upon disabling those adaptors in device manager, I instantly regain network access. My real nic has an ip of 192.168.0.101, while the two VM adaptors show 192.168.119.1, and 192.168.56.1. It appears the system is using one of the virtual adaptors as a primary nic to browse the network. Why is this?

Thanks,

Rob
