Your local drive is best accessed via the network, you might need to share a folder or just use the default share (c$).

Files and folder can also be dragged and dropped from your laptop into the VM.

Your cdrom can be connected via the menu VM > Removable devices > Cdrom or editing the VM Cdrom properties.

Documentation can be found and downloades on the VMware website http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/ws_pubs.html or via the menu Help, this connects you the VMware website also.

VMWare shared folders (in the WS menu)work just fine when c$ does not or is not avaliable (like for non admin users or those who are on domains that lock you out of the share).
