Linux host, WXP guest - parallel port scanner issue

Running Opensuse 11 as a host and Win Xp as a guest for this particular issue. I have an Acer ScanPrisa 640P parallel port scanner attached to my host. Win XP will not see this scanner with release 6.5 110068. Ran fine with 6.0.4 93057. In order to use the scanner I un-installed 110068 and re-installed 93057. I simply powered on the VM and the scanner works. Any ideas what is missing in 6.5?

Was originally posted in the beta community but beta community is closed. Since I have upgraded to the 118166 release with same result. KevinG ask that I post the vmware.log.

Thanks

Hello, Smiley Wink

For information, I have the same problem but with a product which uses a parallel sentinel key for protection.

It works like a charm in 6.0.4 and failed in 6.5.

In my case, I tested the following configuration with my debian linux host :

  • 6.0.4 with kernel Linux tanis 2.6.24-1-686 #1 SMP Thu May 8 02:16:39 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux : ok

  • 6.0.4 with kernel Linux tanis 2.6.26-1-686 #1 : failed

  • 6.5 with with kernel Linux tanis 2.6.24-1-686 #1 SMP Thu May 8 02:16:39 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux :failed

  • 6.5 with with kernel Linux tanis 2.6.26-1-686 #1: failed

I'm not bound to version 6.5, so I will switch back to my "old" 6.0.4 for time being.

Hello,

Same problem here - tried Workstation 6.5 and a dongle on the parallel port doesn't work. Worked fine with 5.5.

Debian Linux host, WXP guest.

What's wrong with 6.5? :smileyshocked:

We can only guess without having seen a vmware.log

The line "parport1 (ppdev1): use data_reverse for this!" is suspicious.

HTH.

I had to reinstall my workstation after an HD failure. I switched to xubuntu 8.10 and it works with vmware 6.5.1

My new kernel :

Linux tanis 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Maybe it may help.
