Licence upgrade from workstation pro 16 to 17

Hello to all, 

If I update the license from workstation pro 16 to 17 , the license remains active for PCs running wokstation pro 16 ?

Do I have to buy the update for all PCs or can I update only one at a time ?

The license portal allows to upgrade, and downgrade individual licenses keys, and it also has an option to split, or combine licenses in case you have keys with different capacities.
