I am using vmware workstation 6.5.3. I am running ubuntu linux desktop 9.0.4 as guest OS, on Windows 7 as Host OS.
I am having a strange problem with keyboard. When I try to type in the quotation mark, it doesn't enter the right character.
For example when I go to text editior and type in the quotation mark, the following chacter is typed (copy pasted)

However the real quotation mark should be
"
The character (first one) looks like the quotation mark but is wrong and many programming languages don't treat it as a quotation mark. If I replace it with the second one, everything works fine.
But on vmware + ubuntu linux 9.0.4 I cannot type in the quotation mark via keyboard.
Please help.
Have a look at the attached image, even that shows that the quotation mark entered by me in the search text is not the actual quotation mark.
