Issue with AMD hardware and nested Virtualisation

Hi Everyone,

Performing some home labs on my recently upgraded workstation PC.  CPU is AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and discovered an issue which wasn't there on Intel based platform.

Setup I am having issues with is:

> Host PC: Windows 10 Pro (1909), VMware Workstation 15.5 Pro.

> Guest VM: Windows Server 2016 GUI with Hyper-V role installed.

>Issue: Unable to boot the VM created in Hyper-V just get black screen with single dot (cursor) no Hyper-V splash screen you usually get even before it reads from ISO

All CPU Virtualisation options selected.  Tried both Hyper-V mode (unsupported) and Windows Server 2016 on VMware Guest Setup.

Suspected graphics issue initially, but tested on both my original graphics card AMD RX 580 and an NVidia GTX 1050 Ti.

Tested the same setup on my laptop i5 6th Gen VMWare Workstation Pro 15.5 and it works perfectly,

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Community.

Could you please help to collect vm-support logs? You can choose "Collect Support Data" from the Help menu.

We think the vm-support logs are more helpful, and kindly please upload your log and help us investigate it. Thanks.

I have collected the support data.  Where should I upload it to?

Thanks in advance.

The name of the uploaded zip folder is:

vmsupport-2020-07-06-22-49

I can re-upload if needed with a more unique name if that would help.

Thanks.
