Is there a spec for perfect desktop PC?

I like to run several VM images (WIndows) on my desktop. I like to be able to run 3 vm images (Windows XP, Vista and 7) at the saem time and do browser testing in them. I like to know what matters the most with regards to getting good performing VMs?

Please do not just tell me to get the best hardware of everything. That can cost up to 10grand.

I like to know what REALLY impcats performacen of vm.

Obviously I need to get enough RAM. I was thinking of 8GB. (4gb for the Windows 7, 64 bit OS and 4 gb for the 3 VMs)

I am not sure if 7200 rpm vs 10000 rpm drives matter much to the performance of the VM. I assume it does but I like to now for sure.

How much does processor speed mtter?
Should I dedicate a seperate drive to the VMs (does it matter?

I appreciate it if you can provide "hands-on experience" feedback.

Regards
