I ran a reinstall of VMware Tools on a Windows 10 VM and in the process, it told me that the Physical Disk Helper would have to be manually reinstalled. However, it neglected to tell me how or from where. If I'm supposed to do that manually, then how?
Would you be able to remove VMware Tools and clean up anything that is remaining with Unable to upgrade existing VMware Tools (1001354)?
An uninstall was clean; nothing of any significance to remove except an empty folder. (BTW, the "all other Windows" instructions in the referenced article are unclear--and dangerous--about just what registry edits to make, particularly when it says to remove everything with "vmware" in it since that includes a lot more than just the entries related to the Tools. You should have that article fixed before it breaks someone's VM.)
As I recall, I did not see this error the first time I upgraded to the latest Tools version. It seems that it only was occurring when the install was replacing the latest version with itself--effectively a "Repair" install--which I did multiple times. The original problem I was trying to resolve forced me back to Tools version 10.0.9 (which did fix it), and this error did not occur during that install. As long as I don't have to install the latest version more than once, I don't think I'll see this again.
