Installed VMWare Tools not functioning under Red Hat RHEL 5.2?

Using VMware Workstation 6.5.2.156735, I installed RHEL 5.2 bypassing the "Easy Install" option.

It says the VMWare Tools are installed when I tried to re-install but my mouse still gets captured and my screen resolution options are still locked at 800x600. What am I missing? Do I need to be logged on as root to install? It asked me for the root password when I double-clicked the RPM and it seemed to make the installer happy.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions,

-Ed

You only installed the files. Now you need to configure the tools. Run the tools configuration script. Refer to the Guest OS Installation Guide for details.

Thanks you very much for taking the time to reply. All is good now.

  1. I copied VMwareTools-7.8.5-156735.tar.gz to my desktop and expanded.

  2. Ran the following as a super user
    ./vmware-install.pl

  3. Hit enter multiple times accepting all the defaults

  4. Enterrf the desired screen resolution to usewhen prompted

  5. Reboot when done

Thanks again!
