Install open-vm-tools on XCP-NG/XenServer VM

Hey everyone,

I am building small dev environment on Workstation pro 16.
It includes nested XCP-NG 8.2 servers. I want to install open vm-tools on them so they can be managable via automation but for some reason it does not work.

I do tried installing the ones from the Centos 7 repo (because XCP-NG is based on that)

yum install open-vm-tools --enablerepo=base

but as the service is started it is reported dead.

How can i troubleshoot this?

I also tried installing the offline tool package that is mounted via CD.

Installation passed successfully but during configuration vmware-config-tools.pl it said "Can run only on virtual machines"

I disabled the check following this article, after which config passed successfully.
https://shazdba.blogspot.com/2015/07/error-configuration-program-is-to-be.html

But alas the tools are still not running.

Has anyone did it?
Can you provide any tips on how can i troubleshoot this further?

P.S.
It seems the tools does not detect vmware virtualization so i commented the check

#ConditionVirtualization=vmware

 in /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/vmtoolsd.service
and
/etc/systemd/system/vmtoolsd.service.requires/vgauthd.service

vgauthd service is now running but vmtools still reports dead.
