I am attempting to install VMware Workstation 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 10.04, and get the following error:
[2010-08-31 07:04:24,559] [http://vmware-vix 1.9.1|http://vmware-vix 1.9.1] Failed to copy file from lib/libxml2.so.2.6.26 to /usr/lib/vmware-vix/libxml2.so.2.6.26 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/tmp/vmis.07Vomz/install/vmware-installer/vmis/core/component.py", line 193, in doit data = fileobj.read(10485760) # Read 10 MB at once. Which causes the installation to abort. After searching for similar problems, I was unable to find others experiencing this issue. Any ideas?
Thanks!
This is probably obvious, but are you installing with sudo or as root ?
I should have looked harder - turns out my download was corrupted after comparing MD5 sigs.
Ya since MD5 and CRC are both hashes...
got the same problem with vmware workstation 7.1.3. tried to download and redownload both the full and the version without vmware-tools of the bundle ...
nothing and i am frankly beginning to be a little desperate... how can i solve this problem ?

any news ? tried and tried to redownload the package ... same error
Have you validated the package against the published MD5 or SHA1 checksums?
trying to save on the other disk solved the problem....
what can it be ?

Just saying "trying to save on the other disk solved the problem" is a bit ambiguous however I'll assume you meant saving the installer package to a different drive however did you even bother to validate the original package against the published MD5 or SHA1 checksums? I'm just curious despite the fact that it's customary to answer questions that are asked when seeking help and you didn't.
what can it be ?
Without more information I can only guess at what the problem was and I'm not inclined to waste time speculating due to a lack of information.
since I was suspecting that the machine had a faulty disk I changed that with a new one and reinstalled the system, now I have to reinstall
the vmware workstation
situation: disk changed new fresh system installation:

on the site the md5 is
Linux 64-bit .bundle

I too am having the same problem as mentioned last in this thread. OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit. Lenovo Thinkpad T510i.
It seems to break down in the last configuration step (of Workstation itself), but insists on rolling back the whole installation.
Ran as root, GUI install, also same if ran CLI install. Checksums do match.
bit of the install log??
