Tested on Fedora 6 x86_64 host, with two Fedora 6 x86_64 guests, running in a team using a LAN segment.
There should be no reason why you can't use anything thats encapsulated by 802.3 on a LAN segment, whether its IPv4, IPv6, or even IPX.
Have you picked out a private site-local address range to use? IIRC, when I did this on physical machines last time, my site-local net was fec0:0:0:8001::/64.
I might play with this tonight (AU EST) and confirm. I'd like to play with IPv6 a bit more myself.
